first you must know \\ = \ in substitude and match.

like this :   \\\\ is match \\.  and  \\ is match \.


\%(\\\)\@<!\\\%(\\\)\@! 
you can split it to three part :

 \%(\\\)\@<!   
  \\
  \%(\\\)\@!
it match "\",and this "\" havn't "\" before and follow it .
