I did not work in the beginning but adding an extra "\" bbefore the
"|" did the job.

You're right.
I'm studying sed, awk and regular expressions at the moment (it was
all new for me) but this one above was a bit too difficult. It was not
mine.
Awk is not so flexible as vimscript and worse I couldn't find out how
to let awk work with a selection.
(I suppose it is not possible).
I have the align plugin also on my pc but I didn't found an option in
the DrChip menu (toolbar) what did the job.
