You are not only Unix specific, but Shell specific. That is not
portable and won't even work if you haven't set 'shell' correctly.
I believe the point was merely that it's a corner case that is handled
correctly in ZyX's solution (or suggestion? [use ':read' for both] --
not sure I saw a full alternate version).
I.e. Your version may work on *nix + Windows, but its behavior differs
from that of the :read command.
