I just posted this, but in case you missed it... You might concider
adding these lines to your .vimrc.
Or when
you paste from your
clipboard you may see
your text
mangled with indentations
like this
"The first line sets a mapping so that pressing F2 in normal mode
will invert the 'paste' option, and will then show the value of that
option. The second line allows you to press F2 when in insert mode,
to toggle 'paste' on and off. The third line enables displaying
whether 'paste' is turned on in insert mode.
nnoremap <F2> :set invpaste paste?<CR>
set pastetoggle=<F2>
set showmode

I assume you woudn't want multiple gvimrc files. Do I copy or move the gvimrc

Yes, either copy or move the file.
If I move it from the MacVim.app contents folder to the home folder, will
MacVim be properly configured when it starts up?
Yes, it will look in your home folder first for the configuration file.
I need to refresh myself about "home folder": In "user/ericweir", the "home folder"is
"ericweir", for which I can substitute "~/"?
Yes.
Thanks, Pedro. I left the gvirmc in the MacVim contents folder alone. I put the
command in a virmc in ~/. It appears to be working. Unless I get suggestions
otherwise, I'll continue putting my personal configurations in ~/.virmc.
