My reopened files do not have syntax coloring.

Don't you use sessions?
try adding either
syntax on
or (near the top)
runtime vimrc_example.vim
(it's not necessary to use both) to your vimrc (or make one if you don't
yet have one, using
:e ~/_vimrc
inside Vim).
