Either edit your google groups preferences for the group 'vim_use' to
stop receiving emails or unsubscribe from the list by emailing an empty
message to [email protected] from said address.

Yeah, everyone saw those going by. You sent them to the list itself.
Actually, IIRC someone even replied to one of those messages pointing
you to the right address to direct your unsubscribe query.

The instructions to get help and unsubscribe are contained in the header
of each and every message sent to the list. Here is the relevant excerpt
for your viewing pleasure:

List-Help: <http://groups.google.com/support/?hl=en_US>,
<mailto:[email protected]>
List-Unsubscribe: <http://groups.google.com/group/vim_use/subscribe?hl=en_US>,
<mailto:[email protected]>

A look in the list archive might also have given you a clue. Again from
the message headers:

List-Archive: <http://groups.google.com/group/vim_use?hl=en_US>

> The email which I am trying to unsubscribe
> will cease to operate soon and from then on all emails will be bounced
> to sender. This could be a serious inconvenince for users of VIM and
> so I am keen to unsubscribe beforehand

List subscribers will not see the bounces, so you can sleep at night
even if you fail to unsubscribe. But it's kind of you to think of us.
