No, it doesn't appear to have worked. It may be a problem with the
permissions on that file (should be world-readable). But I should
have also pointed out that many shared-hosting sites don't allow
changes to configuration via .htaccess files, so it might not be
possible to fix it via that mechanism.
Your host also appears to be using an old version of Apache (1.3.42,
which is the End-of-Life [EOL] release for the 1.3 seriesāļ). But I
don't think that would prevent this from working (if .htaccess is
allowed at all).
I've tried other variants of things in .htaccess files but it never
seemed to work. The permission on .htaccess, btw, is rw-r--r--, so that
isn't the problem, and so I suspect that my host is preventing .htaccess
from being useful. I may switch to a Joomla-based system on a different
host sometime in the future; I'm still (slowly) working on the site.
Hopefully these issues will then get cleared up.
