I just yesterday found a circumstance where it is useful. I was
testing a .vimrc for someone else using
gvim -u ~michael/.vimrc
and large numbers of errors occurred (from line continuations mostly)
because compatible was set. I could use -N instead, but set nocp
would have avoided embarrassing head scratching.
