If you mean the button at the end of the OS titlebar, that depends on
the OS. I'm not sure that you can disable it at all, or disable it in
Vim without disabling it everywhere (which I suppose you don't want).
I maximize the gvim window, which puts that OS close-button safely out
of the way. Of course it is next to the Maximize button, but I've
learned not to click the one when I mean the other (or the Minimize
button, which is next to them both).
If you mean the close-tab button at the end of the Vim tabline, I don't
know about the GUI-style tabbar, but if you use a text-style tabbar you
can omit that button altogether by omitting the %999X code in (usually a
custom function for) the 'tabline' option.
