I have several plugins that do that for various SCMs and I have DiffOrig in my ~/.vimrc. I wasn't saying that I was in need of a way to see my changes, only that persistent undo is not a good solution for the problem under discussion. As I understand it, your plugin displays the same information as DiffOrig but in a less intrusive format. Its reference is still the file on disk.
