When I first started using tmux instead of screen, I set the prefix to C-a instead of C-b, since that was what my fingers already knew. It does mean that I have to hit C-a twice sometimes to get a literal C-a, but I'm already used to that. As it happens, I don't use C-a in vim to increment numbers, so I've never noticed the conflict within vim.
