That works great from the command line. :)

However, when I put it into my function it removes all instances of the
search field. Here's what I've got in my function...

:silent!
%s,\<and\>,\=synIDattr(synID(line('.')\,col('.')\,1)\,'name')=~'openroad
String'?submatch(0):"And",g
