You use it to enter to keystrokes, how would a software (or hardware) keyboard work without having that ability? It does not request any permissions to use a network connection so even if it would log all your keys, it wont get the data out... I use Hacker's Keyboard daily on my Nexus 7 btw. Together with VimTouch and my entire Vim config (which I could just copy over to the tablet, no special tricks required, unlike another unnamed tablet device discussed here recently...). VimTouch with the Hacker's Keyboard really is awesome.
