And what if there are people who find showing each line number is too much, who only want to show every fifth?
1 5 10 15 ... Doesn't this look very pretty, too? ... ... ... or what about having "hex" line numbers? Think about adding a configurable function (like status line) and be done forever. My PHP debugging code also has a problem with signs, they move along with the content, but the debugger does not know about it. Eg breakpoint at line 10 will remain breakpoint at line 10. Using such a function you could do much more eventually. Having syntax support would be fun, too. I don't use them much, so I don't care.
