There might be a slightly newer version available, but I'd bet not by
*two* major releases.

This is the version reported by package manager. I have posted konsole
--version output.

Well, as Thomas Dickey said, your konsole version is 2.10.4 and 4.10.5 is your KDE version: the --version message said as much.

Wondering why when checking version you all use about? Package manager
holds all versions of all software and it is guaranteed to report it,
while "about", --version flag or any other variant may be absent.

Yes, but the version number reported by the package manager is whatever was deemed opportune when putting together the _package_ (which may contain several executables, each with its own version) while --version or Help→About let you find the _program_ version, which is not necessarily the same. Here, konsole 2.8.5 is part of a package named konsole-4.8.5-2.4.1-x86_64.rpm (i.e. package "konsole" version "4.8.5-2.4.1" architecture "x86_64"); that package includes 41 files, among which /usr/bin/konsole (of version 2.8.5, as we saw), /usr/bin/konsoleprofile and three 64-bit .so libraries.

Tony.
