I notified the author back in Sept 2014 regarding a problem documented in the following link. It's probably the same thing you're experiencing: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/vim_dev/7NLT2Z0_V5s The author replied that he would look into it; but he's probably been swamped with other duties and hasn't been able to update showmarks yet.
