It is a "configure" option. This shows running ./configure with a couple of options: http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Building_Vim You'll need to substitute yours. From a little peeking with helpgrep, I think that's just: $ ./configure --enable-xterm_clipboard $ make If confirming beforehand is interesting, maybe first have a look at the configure options: $ ./configure --help Haven't tried that, as I don't have the vim source on this machine ATM. "SELECTING FEATURES" in usr_90.txt talks about editing the makefile, and claims that there are examples, so that might be an alternative.
