I've been using "textern" for this, though I don't use it heavily. It's working for me on Ubuntu 16.04 with Firefox 61.0.1 and GVim 8.1.290. Here are the steps I followed to install:
- Install URL: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/textern/ - References: https://github.com/jlebon/textern - Bring down native app:: cd ~/build git clone --recurse-submodules https://github.com/jlebon/textern cd textern - Install native app:: make native-install USER=1 - In Firefox preferences for textern: - Set "External Editor" to ``["gvim", "--nofork"]``. - Press Ctrl-Shift-E to bring up editor.
