I don't use the terminal myself, but try the documentation at :help :botright To always open the terminal at the bottom when typed as exactly "term" (not for example "ter" or "terminal") try (untested) :cabbr <expr> term ((getcmdtype == ':' && getcmdpos() <= 7)?
