Hi,

Why not have garageband import your project into mp3?  This will save you the 
trouble.  To do this, go to the menu bar and go to share/send song to iTunes 
like you would normally do.  Then, when the dialog pops up, VO right arrow down 
to the compress check box and check it.  Then vo right arrow twice more to the 
pop up menu where you can choose from mp3 or aac encoders.
