Apple has refused to release source to its MPW, Macintosh Programmer's Workshop claiming that patent rights belong to Consulair. MPW became unsupported with the advent of OS neXt. That may, and may not, be the whole story but MPW is now available for free from the Apple web site and there is a mailing list for it though it's not terribly active. The URL gets changed once in a while but I last saw it under an ftp directory on the Apple site. Searching ought to work - - somehow. Ask if you can't find it.
