It is worth nothing that the beige M0001ED has an identical case to
the original 512K, while the beige "Macintosh ED" on the front uses
the Macintosh Plus front case bezel and original 512K rear case
bucket. Both versions of the Platinum EDs use the Macintosh Plus front
case bezel with a brand new Platinum 512K rear bucket (though the 512k
product badge remains the same). As far as I know there was never an
old-style 128K/512K front case bezel produced in Platinum.

Also, as far as I know, the commercial 512K/800 (on which the original
ED was based) was a 220-240V configuration only as well. The 220-240V
PSU was switchable to 120V. So the model number likely indicates the
installed analogue board, not necessarily how it was configured. There
is some evidence from Apple repair manuals that from approx. 1988
onward, the only replacement PSU for the Plus and earlier Macs was the
220-240V "international" version, despite the fact that the localized
120V was still being shipped OEM by territory. By this time almost all
Apple PSUs were universal and though more expensive, a universal
replacement part would have made a lot more sense even for the
original compacts.

Like the 512K/800 the EDs came with the full-sized Plus board, even
though the contemporary commercial 512Kes shipped with the original
shorter keyboard. Later the 512Ke would also ship with the full-sized
Plus keyboard as well.

Therefore, unless you want one of the Cork produced models with the
Plus case front badging, the original Freemont EDs are identical to a
512Ke with a Plus keyboard upgrade and an agency label and serial
number with the M0001ED model number. In my opinion, the only one of
these worth collecting, unless you already have a complete collection
of every other compact, is the Platinum ED, which aside from the
badging has a unique form factor unattainable by any other model
upgrade, thanks to the unique Platinum rear bucket.
