There were/are colour ribbons for the ImageWriter II, but only a few
applications knew how to use them (I think ClarisWorks was one). But
you could get a third-party driver that supposedly let you print
colour from any application.

It was called MacPalette II, and the Mac Driver Museum Yahoo! group
has it still:
