I had the same type of problem happen to my PowerMac 5400 (bad flyback transformer). Open it up and look for singed plastic... it will show you what part\parts blew... If you needs parts, my Classic is on the list of items that I might not be able to move... and I would gladly send it to you for the cost of shipping (Case isn't so good (yellowed), but the HDD and "guts" of it are mint, boots fine, reads floppies just fine, and has been maxed out with 4mb of ram.
