Completely different CPU upgrades for the IIci and other "Mac II" series
systems and the various 040 systems.

Daystar made unique upgrades for each Mac model until the IIci was released,
then they standardized on upgrades to fit the IIci slot and made adapter boards
for most of the other 030 Macs and the two 020 Macs (Mac II and LC).

The Mac II and IIcx need no control panel to turn on the upgrade during boot
because the original CPU (and MMU or PMU in Mac II) are replaced by the upgrade
or by the IIci slot adapter. Macs that retain their original CPU must use the
control panel to enable the upgrade CPU. Same thing for the 040 Macs where the
upgrade plugs into the CPU socket VS a PDS connector.

Daystar also made a 66mhz and 100mhz 601 upgrade for the IIci and several
others they had IIci slot adapters for. Some the 601 would work in, if it'd
physically fit. Some the 601 won't work in due to ROM issues. Toward the end of
the Turbo 601 production run Daystar used 100 and 110 Mhz CPUs underclocked to
66 and 100 Mhz. It's fairly easy to overclock a 100 mhz Turbo 601 but the 66
Mhz must have some parts relocated and some other parts added. It's easy to
hack OS 8.6 to run on a Turbo 601 (or the 601 upgrades for 040 macs), but last
I looked hacking 9.x wasn't fully figured out.

One problem is a IIci with Turbo 601 identifies itself as a "PowerMac 475" with
an LC 475 icon when running System 7.5. The Turbo 601 originally shipped with a
"free" copy of System 7.5 on floppies, because that's the oldest System it'll
run.
