To give you an example Sun's offering for that entry level market was 
the Ultra Enterprise 3000. Not only did it weigh 160lbs it cost $42k. It 
was a vastly far superior machine though. Up to 6  400Mhz  64bit cpu and 
up to 6gb ram.

Of course $42k only got you the 'basic' configuration :
"The Ultra Enterprise 3000 server is now priced starting at $43,250 for 
a system with dual 167-MHz UltraSparc processors and 256MB of memory. "
