The tone you're hearing is generally referred to as the "death chime",
it means something along the lines of, "your RAM is bad" or "your ROM
is broken" or even, "Your motherboard went kaput." I've had pretty
good luck with those DB15 to VGA adapters, however if it's an LCD
display, it probably won't work. (Not that this means it's making it
crash). You might try booting the 610 without the monitor or adapter
plugged in; (it'll boot without a monitor if it's working correctly)
and see if it still gives the death chime. If not, and it makes the
correct startup sound, then your monitor setup is probably the
problem, although I've never heard of a monitor causing that. You
might try booting with each stick of RAM individually, and see if
there's one that's making it crash.
