Is there perhaps a good program to download that makes connecting possible? Also I am not sure how to direct the computer to connect via my modem. Do I need to download a driver for it?
The Global Village modems came with software and cables that would normally connect to the modem port of "classic" Macs. It was typical that the software would ask for the serial number from the modem when first used. You should be using the GV driver and other "standard Hayes" drivers will have problems. Apple's Open Transport software should be on your machine and should be selected. At one time it was an option but I think that, by OS 7.6, it was a standard install. There should be a TCP/IP control panel. If not check the extensions manager panel and get it loaded up. In the TCP/IP panel be sure to connect by modem almost surely via PPP (point to point protocol). Color Classics had an ethernet capability which might be set as the default. As for Navigator 2.02 you will have problems on the internet. It's not the Mac. It's the changes in the world wide web especially in Javascript and cascading style sheets. Sorry. Check out Classilla by Cameron Kaiser. Right now I think it needs OS 8.6 minimum but Camerons seem to be good folks. <http://www.floodgap.com/software/classilla/>. And do try chess on the Color Classic. It's the only computer player I can beat once in a while. -- --> A fair tax is one that you pay but I don't <-- --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group.
