That is correct. 10.6 requires an OS X client or at a minimum a Mac
which can run AFP 3.0, possibly OS 8.1 will do it.

Keep in mind that a floppy is not really a viable option anymore,
because Snow Leopard will no longer write to an HFS floppy. A Classic
cannot use HFS+.

The best way to transfer files to a Classic is with an intermediary
Mac as Elliott Price suggests. I prefer not to use an intermediary
Mac, so I use a ZIP drive under Snow Leopard and run SheepShaver which
will mount the USB Zip. You'll need an inexpensive USB & SCSI Zip
which are readily found on eBay.

Another option is to use terminal software, which allows direct
communication between the Classic & OS X. It's much slower than Apple
Talk or SCSI, but does not involve any emulators and only requires a
single serial cable and USB/Serial adapter (like the popular Keyspan
model).
