It's been a few years, but we were warned at the time *not* to hot
plug ADB devices.  Not because they wouldn't work (clearly, they due),
but due to a risk of damaging the controller chips (which, at the
time, meant a new motherboard).

I don't recall where the warnings were, but I believe they were in the
Apple manuals.
