I was wondering if anyone out there had any different ideas as to what
might be wrong with this an SE Superdrive that won't boot. Here's how
it goes:
I turn the machine on and get the startup beep. Screen goes gray for a
few seconds and then the disk icon comes up and a few seconds later
the blinking question mark pops up because it can't find an OS.
I have: swapped pram batteries 4 times (it could very well be i have 4
dead batteries, but that's a long shot); I have swapped the logic
board out; I have reseated the ram chips, I have swapped hard drives
(same size 20 sc drives), and I have swapped floppy drives (same 1.44
mb 3.5" make and manufacture). I have cleaned all of the dust bunnies
out of the floppies and made sure the drive wasn't jammed by checking
the eject mechanism gear and making sure it was in the 6 o'clock
position. I have tried using a floppy to boot it (OS 7) but it doesn't
want to seem to engage the disk. It almost seems like the floppy drive
is not getting power and I can't figure out why. All the connections
seem to be in the right places. The hd gets power. The floppy is
plugged into the right spot on the board for the upper drive, I just
can't think of what to try next. I have run out of ideas. If anyone
can help me I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Mike
