For curiosity's sake, what model and storage size is the hard drive?
(just pop top off of the case and read off the label) It's possible
that the drive has failed, which would be unfortunate, but not
uncommon. The computer is 18+ years old after all. Anyway, do check
the cable connections first as noted above. I assume the floppy is not
on the SCSI bus, but the hard drive is. I doubt the bus would fail
though. Maybe the power supply is failing? If the drives don't have
enough power they might not operate properly.
