You can always tell by how it behaves in the Chooser. Of course, one must download it first. If it asks you to choose between the printer and modem port, it is obviously the serial version. I'm not sure, but I think the AppleTalk version will give you an error message if AppleTalk is not enabled, but in any case, it won't give you the serial port icons in the chooser window.
