Yes, the SCSI hard drive for the Mac Portable uses a weird connector which wasn't used in any other machine. The pinout is floating around the web somewhere, and it wouldn't be especially difficult to build an adapter so that it could be connected to a SCSI external enclosure, for example, but it would be a several hour job. I am also an attorney, but I also do not have a Mac portable. And, unfortunately, not enough time to fix your portable logic board myself, otherwise I'd offer to fix it and send it back to you. Do you not have time to fix it yourself? The cap replacement should take a couple of hours and I think I have replacements for most or maybe all of the capacitors found in the Portable. <http://68kmla.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16626> Alternatively, you might look for someone who will replace the caps on your Portable logic board for a fee.
