It seems likely that indeed it was written in the 256 color era, and
would likely take some significant rework to work. As in, likely needing
the source code to even change it to work with the data at all.
But, I did some googling around, which led me to

, which led me to something called SunDesk. It claims to be "like"
ColorFinder, but maybe better. This might be an option to try for the
same functionality. I haven't tried it myself though.
