I think that model is the kind that won't run with a bad PRAM battery or NO 
PRAM battery.  But there is a simple trick to test for this, after powering it 
on hit the reset button.  I'm pretty sure this model has a reset button.  If 
not then turn it on, wait a second or two then quickly switch it off then back 
on again.  In either case if it starts up then all you should need is a new 
battery.
