Or grab a third-party formatter in the likes of Hard Drive Tool Kit, MicroMat, 
the Lido 7.65, APS Utility.
The list will depend on the OS you have booting the SE/30. The Apple Setup 
Program is notoriously narrow-range.

Does the drive have Apple firmware?  Usually this is indicated by an Apple 
label on the drive itself.

If not, you will need a patched version of HD SC Setup which ignores the "Apple 
blessed" status.  It's readily available.
