Removing the motherboard is not too much. These older units are falling victim to the capacitor issue.

Removing the logic board sounds a little a "too-much" approach. If you have a Performa, a dead pram battery could stop it from booting. There are other causes. With local talk you get a hybrid of Apple serial cable and phone connector. The Chooser shows the connected device if all is working right. With serial cabling, I would sometimes tear my hair out until I realized I wasn't using a bi-directional cable (with arrows on the plug top pointing in two opposite directions. And remember that the phone components need phone plug terminators. Everything else is just a matter of knowing which part is working or defective by testing and switching out. Jeff G. If you're using PhoneNet cabling, check the telephone cable between the PhoneNet connectors. Make sure it has the yellow and black wires and not just the red and green wires. There were an awful lot of really cheap 6' lengths of telephone cord shipped with modems which omitted the yellow and black conductors to save than 1/2 cent in manufacturing costs.Jeff Walther -- -- ----- You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group.
