Try a PRAM reset, Command-Option-p-r immediately after power up. Remove any added RAM then try to boot. If it does boot then put the memory back and try it again. It's possible the memory is bad or that the contacts are dirty / oxidized.
Any chance you can try a different monitor and adapter or try that combination on another Mac?
