Charles, thanks for this idea, although I can confirm that having a good battery in the machine doesn't prevent the RAM check, unfortunately. (With or without the battery, it does appear that a very quick off/on restart will skip the memory check, I'm not sure how an "off" period is allowed but it's measured in seconds at most.)
