I am but an egg, with no aspirations to attain the lofty status of preserved
cukes, but I'll take a stab at this one...
Complete files can fragment the available free space on a drive...if there
were one block of free space, and the Mac wrote a file somewhere in the
middle of that space, you would then have two free space fragments and no
fragmented files. Kinda like the Brownie analogy, if you took a brownie out
of the middle of the pan.
