This wave of websites asking for donations and getting
enough to make the sites self supporting is a great
thing. Most people who think something is worth
their while will pay what they think its worth.
People who have no use for it don't have money ripped
out of their hands to support what they dislike or
choose to ignore. People who do have a use for the
stuff
but can't afford to spare any money don't have to pay,
but they may wish they could. Of course there are
always a number of people who do find this stuff
useful
and could affordt to pay, but don't.
IMHO, this pay for what _you_ think is good instead
of paying for everything you like and everything you
hate is a great thing. Of course governments bent
on oppressive confiscation of individual wealth
(taxes)
will completely ignore this phenomenon (or _try_ to
squash it) instead of taking a long look at their own
shortcomings.
