There are some programs, so called 'docmakers', that work just like 
pdf's (with a chapter menu that you can click to browse and all) and 
are compatible with the oldest of macs. In the past they were used 
for making digital manuals for  software.
They could provide a usefull alternative next to the current pdf and 
html documents.
BTW I think the pickle is very friendly producing a separate pdf and 
html file. I personally would not have bothered. The online html faq 
is good enough. Anyone running netscape 2.02 can access it perfectly. 
People not able to run netscape 2.02 should buy themselves a vintage 
mac that can. How much does a lc or IIsi cost these days? Not much I 
believe.
