I would bet you can use this cable to power the drive.
I have used the DB-19 port (normally for external floppy drives and early HD's) to
power an external ZIP-drive on my Classic, and it works.
Check <http://developer.apple.com/technotes/hw/hw_19.html> for the pinouts of the
DB-19 (found the URL in p.'s faq). Pins 1-4 are GND, 5 is -12V, 6 is +5V and 7 & 8 are
+12 V.
Is the disk inside the case a normal SCSI-disk (with the normal internal connectors) ?
If so, you could take it out, use the cable to connect the case to the mac, and
measure the current of the internal power connector.
