I'm still curious why an external CD-ROM drive required 32-bit addressing
to be on in order to avoid the error; it doesn't make any sense that an
isolated SCSI device would do this.  Then again, SCSI doesn't make sense
either :)

Try turning 32-bit addressing off and see if the error returns.
