Tried a magnifying glass? IIRC, monochrome monitors
(except ones that have switchable colors) don't have
a shadow mask at all, like a black and white TV.
You'll just see a smooth, uninterrupted phosphor
coating. On this Mitsubishi Diamond Scan 15VX the
shadow mask is so fine I have to look really really
close to see it and can just barely see the three
colors in white areas. Without a magnifying glass
I can't tell if its a dot triad or staggered slot
mask. Color TVs all used to be dot triad until
Sony came out with the Trinitron with just vertical
stripes. The slot mask was created to make a picture
as bright as a Trinitron with the cheaper "spherical"
tube. The staggered slot mask helps cut down the
jaggies on angled lines and edges. Some people argue
that you just can't beat a dot triad CRT for sharpness
even if the picture is (supposedly) a bit dimmer.

Whatever type this Mitsubishi is, it looks very
nice to me. Can't beat the price either, FREE!
All I had to do was open it up, set the brightness
to 50% then crank up the "screen" knob on the
flyback transformer a little to boost the brightness.
Not a bit of screen burn for having been used at
an airport ticket counter with some text screen
on it for ages. (I have another one of the same
model tthat does have just a little burn on it.)
