It's perfectly easy to install more than one system version on exactly 
the same volume. All you have to do is remove the finder file from the 
system(s) on your hard disk before you boot off your system disks to 
install yet another version. Afterwards, you can put all of the 
finder(s) back, and use a utility like System Switcher to choose which 
one is the current "blessed" system folder. You do NOT have to partition 
your drive.

I don't have a direct link to that util, but I remember using it and one 
or two others that did the same thing quite a bit back in 1993-95.
