Aqua, Go to Schrier's "Clock Chipping Home Page" and click on Machine Specifics, Modification 1. I think there's a link in the p's FAQ, or do a search. The socket allows you to swap oscillators. I was contentedly running my IIsi at 27.7MHz until I tried to put a Nubus Adapter in it, then no boot. It was a simple matter to pull one oscillator and pop in the one that runs it at 25MHz. Yeah, I'd go with the socket. Who wants to keep pulling the board and heating up the iron every time you want to make a change? Not to mention wear and tear on the board in that spot. OE sells a kit for $15 + minimal shipping (and they are on your side of the country). If you price this stuff from Digi-Key, it's either at or below cost with no outrageous handling charge. This includes the two oscillators, a socket and a nice heatsink plus the directions from the website. If you need more specifics than they provide, let me know. Peel the heat transfer tape off the heatsink and get some heat transfer PASTE (Radio Shlock is one supplier). The tape will do more harm than good but don't skip the heatsink especially if you run it at 27MHz. As previously mentioned you will have to clip some pins off the socket OE supplys. Don't take your time soldering it to the board. It's plastic and will melt. Hot iron, solder quickly. No fears. :) ______________________________ Hardy, Hard's Disk Ltd., Freehold NY.
