You have to do a custom install (for 605/475/575) of system update 3.0
immediately following the installation of plain old 7.1.  Do not attempt to
restart without first installing 3.0 or you'll get Sad Mac.  The only way to
get 7.1 to work on a 575 without the 3.0 update is to use the original
system software. (which may in fact include it,  I don't have it for mine,
wish I did...)  

Easy install of 3.0 doesn't work either, custom install only.  The 065
enabler is on disk two of the 3.0 update.

With that 128 MB RAM, I would seriously consider 8.1.  Open Transport is a
bit faster and you get spring open folders, the full appearance package, and
MRJ 2.0, which is problematic, but *reasonably* new nonetheless.
