The IIsi PDS, and the top slot on the DayStar
dual slot adaptor, are wired different that the
Cache/PDS slot in the IIci and the lower slot on
the IIsi adaptor.

The lower slot should work with most any card for
the IIci cache/PDS. You don't want to plug any
card designed for the IIci or IIv-whatever or
Performa 600 into the upper slot, directly into
the IIsi PDS or the PDS in an SE/30.

I have seen cards fried that way, particularly
DayStar 030 PowerCache cards.

IMHO using the same identical connector for two
incompatable slots was a major "boner" by Apple.

Other connectors on Vintage Macs with some potential
for possibly damaging confusion.

The DB15F used for video was also used for the
AUI network interface and PC joysticks. Go plug a
Mac monitor into a PC joystick port and watch things
smoke. :) (No idea if it fried the monitor since that
doofus threw it away, but it sure fried his
PC's soundcard!)

The DB25F SCSI is the same as the PC parallel port.
I've heard of people plugging a parallel printer
into their Mac's SCSI, but no instances of damage yet.

The ADB port is identical to an S-Video port. I've
never heard of anyone trying to connect ADB to
a VCR, yet. ;)

Which came first? ADB ports on the IIGS or S-Video
ports on higher end AV equipment?

I'd love to see the part of the design notes
on how they chose connectors and if there was
ever any concern brought up about the IIci
slot using the same connector but wired up different
than the SE/30 PDS. It's just weird that Apple
would design it for the SE/30, change it for
the IIci, go back to the SE/30 spec for the IIsi
then go to the IIci spec for the three or four
IIv-whatever series.
